Tax objections, filing extensions and tax advice in Winterthur
You can lodge an objection (Einsprache) against a tax assessment notice within 30 days of receiving it. This deadline is set by law and cannot be extended — once it has passed, the assessment becomes final, even if it is wrong.
We check your assessment against the return that was filed, set out the grounds for the objection factually and handle the correspondence with the tax office. We also take care of filing extensions before a reminder or a discretionary assessment is issued.
Who this service is for
- Anyone who has received an assessment that differs from their return
- Anyone who cannot meet the 31 March filing deadline
- Anyone who has already received a reminder or a discretionary assessment
- Anyone who needs a second opinion on a tax question
What we actually do
Assessment checked
We compare every item of the assessment with your return and show you where and why the tax office has deviated from it.
Objection on time
Within 30 days of receipt, in writing and with reasons. We draft the objection and submit it in time.
Extension instead of a reminder
A filing extension requested in good time costs nothing and prevents reminders, fines and a discretionary assessment. We submit the request before the deadline expires.
Representation before the tax office
With your power of attorney, we handle all correspondence — queries, requests and supporting evidence all go through us.
Example: discretionary assessment after a reminder
Anyone who still does not file a tax return after a reminder is assessed at the tax office's discretion — usually well above their actual income. An objection against this is only admissible if it gives reasons and the missing tax return is submitted at the same time.
This is the most time-consuming correction, but also the most effective: we prepare the missing return and submit it together with the reasoned objection within the 30-day deadline.
The documents we need
The more complete your documents, the faster it goes — and the lower your tax bill tends to be in the end. If anything is missing, we get back to you with a specific list.
- Tax assessment notice or assessment decision
- Copy of the tax return that was filed
- All correspondence with the tax office
- Documents relating to the disputed items
- Reminder or discretionary assessment, if applicable
FAQ: Objections & extensions
How long do I have to lodge an objection?
30 days from receipt of the tax assessment notice. The deadline is set by law and cannot be extended — what counts is the date of delivery, not the date you open the letter.
What does a filing extension cost?
The request to the tax office itself is usually free of charge if submitted in time. For our work we charge by time; a simple request takes a matter of minutes.
Can a final assessment still be changed?
Only in narrow exceptional cases — for example through a revision if significant new facts come to light, or through a correction of obvious calculation or clerical errors. We check whether either route is open to you.
Do I have to pay the tax bill despite my objection?
In principle, an objection does not suspend collection. You pay according to the provisional invoice; the final settlement follows the decision. Any overpayment is refunded with interest.
