Tax return Zurich — prepared and filed for you

Yes — we prepare and file your tax return wherever you live in the Canton of Zurich, without you ever having to come to Winterthur. Send your documents online or by post, answer a few questions by phone, and we file electronically via ZHprivateTax. From CHF 59, in English.

Canton-wide, no visit needed

Why it doesn’t matter where you live.

Every municipality in the Canton of Zurich uses the same tax declaration forms, the same deadline and the same online portal. Since returns are filed electronically via ZHprivateTax, it makes no difference to us whether you live in Wädenswil, Bülach or Wetzikon — all we need are your documents and your approval.

The only thing that differs is the final bill: your municipality’s tax multiplier (Steuerfuss) determines how much you pay on the same taxable income. You don’t need to know the rate — the tax office applies it automatically. Our job is to make sure your taxable income is correct and as low as the law allows.

01

Filed electronically via ZHprivateTax

We file your return through ZHprivateTax, the canton’s official online portal — no signature needed, all supporting documents attached. It works the same for every municipality in the canton.

02

Documents online or by post

Upload your salary certificate, bank statements and receipts through our form — phone photos are fine. Or post everything to Archplatz 2 in Winterthur.

03

Questions by phone or video

Anything unclear is sorted out in a short phone or video call. No need to take time off work or travel.

04

Or in person in Winterthur

Prefer to sit down together? Our office is in the Archhöfe shopping centre next to Winterthur main station — around 20 minutes by train from Zurich HB.

All 12 districts

From Affoltern to Zurich.

The Canton of Zurich is divided into 12 districts (Bezirke). We work with clients from all of them — and know the topics that come up most often in each region.

Affoltern district

Many people in the Knonauer Amt commute to Zurich or Zug — travel to work is deductible as a professional expense.

Professional expenses

Andelfingen district

The rural Weinland has plenty of homeowners and farms — property maintenance costs need to be documented properly.

Property maintenance costs

Bülach district

Around the airport, many people work shifts — extra costs for meals away from home and the commute are often forgotten.

Professional expenses

Dielsdorf district

Lots of families own their home in the Zürcher Unterland — imputed rental value and mortgage interest belong together.

Imputed rental value (Eigenmietwert)

Dietikon district

The Limmat Valley is commuter country between Zurich and Aargau — even if you work across the cantonal border, you file where you live.

Cantonal and municipal tax

Hinwil district

Commutes from the Zürcher Oberland are long — public transport pass or car, we check which travel deduction is allowed.

Professional expenses

Horgen district

On the left shore of the lake, a salary often comes with a share portfolio — we complete the securities register in full, including withholding tax.

Securities register

Meilen district

On the right shore, wealth and pension fund buy-ins play a big role — that is often where the biggest savings lie.

Pension fund buy-in (Pensionskasseneinkauf)

Pfäffikon district

Plenty of detached houses in the Oberland: comparing the flat-rate deduction with actual maintenance costs pays off every year.

Property maintenance costs

Uster district

Many young families around the Greifensee — the child deduction and costs for daycare or childminders are a must, not a nice-to-have.

Childcare costs (Drittbetreuungskosten)

Winterthur district

Our home district: appointments at our office at Archplatz 2 — or just as easily online if you would rather stay at home.

Tax multiplier (Steuerfuss)

Zürich district

In the city of Zurich we look after many newcomers and people taxed at source — including the subsequent ordinary assessment (NOV).

Tax at source (Quellensteuer)

Municipal tax multiplier: every municipality is different

The cantonal and municipal tax (Staats- und Gemeindesteuer) is calculated on the same basic tax. The cantonal multiplier is identical across the canton — 95 % for 2026. The municipal multiplier, however, is set by each municipality, and church tax may be added on top. You can look up the rate for your municipality in the official overview of municipal tax multipliers on zh.ch (in German, as of September 2026).

Around Winterthur we have dedicated pages with the tax rate, travel and typical topics for each municipality: service area Winterthur and surroundings.

Full process and document checklist

Example: a family in Uster, entirely online

A married couple in Uster, both working, two children, one of them in daycare. They moved to Switzerland three years ago and used to spend a weekend in March wrestling with German-language tax forms — never quite sure whether they had missed a deduction.

This time they upload their salary certificates, daycare invoices, pillar 3a statements and bank statements through our form in one evening. The next day they receive a short list of two missing documents, and the open questions are cleared up in a 15-minute call — in English.

Three working days later, the finished return arrives as a PDF, with the child deduction, childcare costs and commuting costs properly claimed. After their approval, we file via ZHprivateTax. They never had to set foot in Winterthur.

FAQ

Tax returns in the Canton of Zurich

Do I have to come to Winterthur?

No. Your tax return is filed electronically via ZHprivateTax, which works the same for every municipality in the Canton of Zurich. You upload your documents or send them by post, and we sort out any questions by phone or video call. If you would rather meet in person, our office is next to Winterthur main station — around 20 minutes by train from Zurich HB.

How much does it cost to have my Zurich tax return done?

From CHF 59 for individuals, from CHF 100 for married couples and families, from CHF 79 for retirees and from CHF 120 with property. Self-employed returns and objections are billed by time, from CHF 60 per hour. These are starting prices — if your return is more complex, we always quote the price up front. Clients outside Winterthur pay exactly the same.

What is the deadline for tax returns in the Canton of Zurich?

31 March of the year following the tax period. If you cannot make it, request a filing extension (Fristerstreckung) from your municipal tax office before the deadline — some municipalities let you do this online. A first extension request made in time is deemed approved unless you hear otherwise, and timely requests must be granted up to 30 November of the following year (as of September 2026, according to the cantonal finance directorate’s instruction on zh.ch). We are happy to file the request for you.

Does my municipality’s tax rate apply?

Yes. The cantonal tax multiplier is the same across the canton (95 % for 2026), but each municipality sets its own municipal tax multiplier (Steuerfuss) — so two people with the same income pay different amounts depending on where they live. What counts is the municipality you live in at the end of the tax period. If you move within the canton, one municipality stays responsible and the municipal tax is split between the municipalities pro rata.

Can you help if I am taxed at source?

Yes. Many expats in the Canton of Zurich pay tax at source (Quellensteuer). Depending on your situation, a subsequent ordinary assessment (NOV) is mandatory or can be requested — and a full tax return then allows you to claim deductions such as pillar 3a or pension fund buy-ins. We check whether it makes sense for you and prepare the return in English.
